Story!

This is a test blog so if it likes a big steaming pile of poo, forgive me.

Anyways my name is Robert Gu, most of you may know me from being an intern with the Junkies last year.

Anyways ill try to keep the poker story as brief as possible.

Back in 2003 I deposited 50 bucks on partypoker and dicked around at .25/.50 cent limit.  I bustoed my account about 10 times depositing 50 bucks at a time.  I decided to be proactive and all and bought winning No limit Holdem by the well respected and esteemed 11 time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth.  This was a very bad decision as well.  I read through the book and obviously didn’t understand it cause the first SNG I played I open shoved 88 for my entired stack and lost.

I decided that the book I just bought was complete trash so I bought that TJ cloutier/Sklansky book which name I do not remember.  Looking back that book makes me LOL.  It was the nittiest book every written about No Limit Holdem.  I remember reading it and coming out and thinking only play 22+ AK+.  There was like 5 pages dedicated to why AQ was like the worst hand ever.  I remember when my friend somehow sattied and mincashed in Main Event in 2004 our strategy was like a 6/4 style.  First day he pickes up like 308409384 high PP first 2 days and fold to the money.

Anyways back to my story.  After adopting this ultra nitty strategy I managed to somehow be a breakeven player just playing SNGs on party.  Eventually adopted a strategy that was somewhere inbetween ultra nittness and playing every hand and actually started winning a little cash.  In the summer of 2005 moved my entire Roll to Stars and started playing a lot of 6.50 turbo SNG’s as you can see from the graph.  I started getting comfortable playing more tables and would play like 4-6.  I did that for a good year bascially.  I was mega content making like 8/hr enough for pizza and beer.  I never moved up or took a shot.  I just patiently grinded away those SNG’s.  Once in a while i would take a foray into the 4.40 180 man SNG’s as evidenced by the sharp jumps in my sharkscope graph.

Toward the tail end of 2006 I started getting into FR cash starting at the 25 NL level.  I eventually started 12 tabling playing like a 10/8 style which was good enough for 6bb/100 over like a 50k sample size.  I didn’t play a ton of 2007 as I was out of the country.  But enough to be able to play A LOT of 50 NL FR in 2008.  The graph above(or below?) is of 2008.  As you can see I just mass grinded 50 nl taking 2-3 shots at 100nl but not really making the cut. Grinded enough to make supernova on stars.

Right now I am getting back into playing SNG’s but like 18 at a time.  Still the 6.50 turbos as the 16’s can be brutal.  Did so well last week I got 140 dollars in leaderboard prizes for Pokerstars battle of the planets SNG leaderboard promotion.  I totally slept on the promotion but I can totally make an easy extra 50 bucks a week with this promotion.  I am slowly getting away from FR cash, although I will play from time to time.  I have honestly no idea where to go from here as far as my poker career goes. I am really looking foward to getting  “real job” and playing poker partime and for fun instead of full time grinding out like 17bucks/hr and never getting any better.
