Here is a quick update of my stats after 2 lessons so far with Jonathan Gaynor from Cardrunners. Â I started out pretty hot and then inevitablely cooled off some. Â But I feel like I’ve improved quite a bit by still focusing on 3 betting more, polarizing my range, (actually I executed my first light 4 bet!!!), playing my draws much more aggressively, floating, bluffing more on the river, and trying to focus on extracting maximum value. As I’m typing this I can honestly say I’ve practiced and focused pretty hard on all of these concepts.
The downside to this learning curve is I have become a bit of a calling station at times as I try to float more and represent different hands. I have also been caught bluffing much more than ever. I think at the end of the day this is good. I know Phil Galfond told me I needed to bluff more. That’s good enough for me. I’m damn near playing like a maniac at times. But I actually think I can handle it. We’ll see. I’m very happy overall with my play although my results have been pretty stagnant over the last week. The single biggest stat that jumps out at my improvement over all is winning 56% of my 154 sessions. That’s like a 10% improvement over my lifetime percentage. My VPIP and PFR is 19/14 too which is almost double what it was for me a few months ago. (Remember this is full ring not 6 max). Â Results be damned. That’s real improvement- I think.
